Ok..we need to get some organisation and movement on this one...we need to organise meet points..these are undoubtably going to have to be Motorway service station for most if not all...Simmsy and myself will meet up at Michael Wood services on the M5..Dave and Ian will probably want to make their way across country and meet up with us towards the Midlands at a service station in those parts..Jacko and MLC will want to meet us further up the pipe so what we need to know is where ?
Its going to be a pretty early start for all as we should look to getting into the LD by midday or early afternoon so as to get a decent camping pitch and enjoy the first glimpses of the Lake District and Mountains..

Midday arrival sounds good, be able to get a short ride in after the shock of the journey up has worn off.. :)

I'll check the route later when at the PC and suggest a meet point, probably be looking at a fuel stop just before we enter the LD..

Ok, i'll meet you at the BP station on your route just off the motorway near Kendal:

A591 Southbound, Helsington
Cumbria
LA8 8
United Kingdom

It says southbound but there's one on each side, probably the cheapest fuel we'll get before entering the Lake District as they're mostly independent stations in the Park..

Hope that suits.. :)

Yup.. Still me, still going.. To what degree is this weather dependent? Are we only going if it's sunny, can we put up with a few showers or are we calling it off if it forecasts a lot of rain? I'm easy, what's everyone else think?

I'll still go if the forecast is showers/light rain but if persistent/heavy then I'm out. With any luck luck we'll have a window of dryish weather - might even get a suntan  8) :headbang:

The hunt for a new tent is on again litlle shit bag on fleabay obviously never had the tent in the first place as he cancelled the pick up twice due to supposedly breaking down on the way to our arranged meeting point and now he wont answer the phone or reply to emails sent from ebay I'm glad I told him he had no chance of being paid before I saw it in the flesh as it looks like he clipped a couple of people after me who paid him up front

Is this ok for a meeting point for me? Makes sense to top up before entering the Lakes anyway.. http://goo.gl/maps/Hm78 Or nearer to M6 J36?  :dontknow:

Or I could just meet at the site..

I think I'm with the majority - can live with the odd light shower but serious downpour would be endex for me.  Did a tour of Scotland last year, absolutely chucked it down for the duration - ruined the fun!

blue,

My partner and I will be taking a trip down to the lakes in a fortnights time.  Any other routes we should try and do you know of any good b&b accommodation in the area?

Cheers

Jen

The Kirkstone pass is worth it just for the view.
Also lake Ulleswater.

Long term forecast from the Goons at the Met office say that any prolonged summery warm weather is more than likely going to be towards the end of July..
That would be pretty good timing for our little jaunt into the mountains..but then again we all know that the weather forecasters are full of shit  :violent1: :icon_pale: :bs:

I'm going to stick to my proven technique of not taking any notice of any forecasts until the day before set off.. :D

Probably the best and most sound method mate   :laughing7:
Looking at the numbers we seem to have a nice round half dozen going..
Most favoured plan seems to be to head on up early on Saturday morning reaching the LD by sometime in the early afternoon..
I will leave Jacko to cobble together the Sunday loop as he knows the area better than me when it comes to the roads..
Plans are for a two night stay in the Lake District but if the weather is fair both myself and Simmsy will extend our journey by another night or two heading into Yorkshire through the Pennines and North Yorkshire National Parks..maybe finishing up on the east coast at Whitby or Scarborough where i used to live..anybody else wanting to add another day to the trip is more than welcome to come along  :occasion14:
