It's your ride mate, Sunday loop is all yours, we can have a chat about it Saturday night over a few beers if you like but there's nothing wrong with your original map..  Thing is, if you leave it to me, it'll end up being a 400mile day :blob3:

I may not be on the GSXF for this, Scotland minced the rear tyre and the Sunset/Sunrise ride finished it off, and I don't think i'll be able to get a new pair and change them in time. (I'm binning the set, the Maxxis front M6029 is harder than diamond, I reckon I could get 30,000 miles out of it, it's just not wearing, it's done two rears now and hardly looks used.. It's too hard to be of any use, the thing slithers around so much in the damp, it's like riding off road, I know if I leave it on and go for another rear i'll end up dropping it)

Depending on weather etc, I'm contemplating leaving Friday for half way, then take the scenic route through the Peak distrist and North Yorkshire on Sat. If not, I'll hammer up the motorways with you guys on Sat am. Will take a late decision on this one, let you know nearer the time.

Thats a very generous offer Andy - and if you're sure you and Mrs J wouldn't mind, I'd love to. I was looking at somewhere near Chesterfield as a stop off, so not far from you anyway.

If you want to still do your Chesterfield stay and Peaks run that's cool, but it's fine with us if you want to stay here, be my pleasure.. :)

Thing is there's no easy way from the Peak District to the Yorkshire Dales, this I know from years of trying to tie the two together efficiently.. I was going to mile munch up the A1 and come off at Wetherby, this is our usual route into the Yorkshire Dales and it would give time to ride a few roads before the fairly early meet that has been proposed near Kendal. We could all meet at Kendal Asda then, easy to find and cheap petrol before entering the LD.. To do both Peaks and Dales and make the mid morning meet point in Kendal would be impossible.. As it is I think a 10:30 meet at Kendal is too early, it doesn't make for a leisurely ride in for all. Maybe need to look at that guys..?

I reckon around 1pm would be better for all, meet at Asda Kendal. Plenty of time to get to site, put tents up and hit the pub, or maybe a short ride, then pub, whatever.. :) A 10:30 meet at Kendal will make for a very long day..

I dont see a problem in meeting at asda kendal at 1pm should get us to the the camp site around 230 which will still give us plenty of time to have a quick scout and a few bevies

Yeah, leisurely rides = happy campers..

Dave, this would be a fair route through the Dales to Asda Kendal..

http://goo.gl/maps/2UBJ

As you can see Googles' granny drivers have it at 4 hours without stops, that's still a 9am set off (to meet at 1pm) from mine with no Peak District.. To get the Peaks in as well you're looking at a more hardcore run, from here. Unless, of course, we're riding GS1200s..  :blob3:

It's a 4 1/2 ride / 250 mile ride for me & Martin from the West Country ... we'll have to stop at least once to get some fuel.

Yeah, maybe I could do the peaks on the way home instead  :dontknow:, is that your preferred route? I was also contemplating Friday night in Edale in the peaks - I went there on a school trip about 35 yrs ago! Can't make my mind up, too much happening at the moment. If I did do that, I reckon I could make Asda Kendal from there on Sat am quite comfortably and get to take in the Dales too. I'll let you know either way ASAP Andy.

I was going to go straight to Kendal on the A65, but included the Dales bits to enhance the ride, I've ridden those roads many times before..

If you stay in Edale I can recommend the Fieldhead campsite, almost opposite the bigger pub, nice and small, quiet and flat pitches.. :) Seems to make sense to start from there if you want to get both Parks in..

:-[ Looks like I'm going to have to bow out of this - father in law died & OH has had to go to Germany to sort things out, got there just before he passed.  Depending on if I can get someone to child sit I may still be able to do the Sat but won't be able to stay!

Sorry to hear the sad news Geoff

I'm not sure if Martin will be able to make the weekend either considering his work predicament, so perhaps we should postpone the meet until late August / Early September  :dontknow:

Thanks for all the posts - Like I said I'll do my best to make the Sat - I'm sure I'll really need a break from looking after my 10 yr old with the "help" of my 18 yr old by then!! Although, Ian's idea of postponing the trip would appeal to me - probably a bit late in the day to do that for the rest though I would think??

Im thinking that Ians idea of a postponement is a good idea..i have no idea of what is going on with my job right now but it seems almost certain that i will be out of work by the last day of July.
Hopefully i will be able to get back on my feet by end of August or September time.
All is not lost..im still up for a shorter more localised weekend of maybe a night or two somewhere on the South Coast..if anybody has any ideas im all ears..on the off chance i get any positive news then im all for still going up to the Lakes
