A417 - Streatley to Wantage over the Berkshire Downs
« on: February 18, 2012, 06:33:41 PM »
Just came back from a visit to my old stomping ground in Reading, and rather than ride along the M4 back to Wiltshire, I chose the Scenic route over the Berkshire Downs along the A417 travelling from Streatley to Wantage.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Streatley&daddr=Wantage&hl=en&ll=51.563839,-1.294327&spn=0.129975,0.308647&sll=51.454513,-2.58791&sspn=0.260574,0.617294&geocode=FcM3EgMdT23u_ymbXHbKN712SDEneOz2vG2DAA%3BFQQvEwMd6zvq_ymBsB9OVUtxSDFqST9Syo7t3g&oq=wantage&mra=ls&t=m&z=12
On Google Maps the warning about restricted roads is because the road is restricted to vehicles under 7T.
Note I don't recommend the onwards route to Swindon  :nono:  ... infact stay well clear of the Swindon altogether... I hate it.  I got lost again trying to get through the place during rush hour :cussing:
The London Boys might be able to incorporate the road into one of their trips to the Red Lion in Avebury  :dontknow:   There are some nice pubs and cafes at Streatley  :happy3:

The B4494 Wantage to Newbury is well worth the effort if you're that way.  :icon_thumright:

The A338 run from Wantage to Hungerford is a really nice run as well.
