Gearbox problems
« on: August 17, 2012, 01:23:44 PM »
I am currently riding a 2009 GSX650F with 8500 miles.

It has suddenly developed a problem with the gears in that it is very stiff and i can only get it as high as 2nd gear before it gets stuck and wont go any higher.

I have checked the clutch lever and the clutch fluid in the reserviour and all seems ok.

Has anyone got any suggestions??

Not heard of this on a GSXF. You say the clutch is fine, so next step would be to check that the gear lever linkage is well lubed, poor linkage operation can result from dry unions and pivots and has been known to cause gear selection problems..
Currently run a 2012 DL650AL2 and a zx6rA1P

Are you saying you can only use 1st & 2nd ???

Clutch and linkage problems would be probally be present through the whole gearbox , inability to change above a particular gear could be a an actual gearbox fault eg bent gear shift fork.

Follow the advice given , strip down all the external linkages clean , lube and reassemble.

Try shifting through with the engine turned off .

Problem all sorted , thanks to the help and advise given.

Stripped and dismantled the linkages on the foot lever. Cleaned and lubricated again and all ok again.
