I have always just used whatever my local shop stocks as long as it meets the specs 90% of the time it does tend to be silkolene so it must be really cheap to the shops or actually work

From the 650F Manual.
"Suzuki recommends the use of SUZUKI PERFORMANCE 4 MOTOR OIL or an equivalent engine oil. Use of SF/SG or SH/SJ in API with MA in JASO.
Suzuki recommends the use of SAE 10W-40 engine oil. "
From the internet.
Silkolene Super 4 Specifications: API 4-Cycle Performance Spec. SF and SG JASO MA and MA2
castrol power 1 Specifications: API SL JASO MA-2.

Castrol Power 1 does not fulfil the API standard so I'd avoid it. Unless the internet information is wrong.

As for synthetic, mineral oil or mix there is little difference. As long as you change your oil at regular intervals, it should not matter which oil you choose. Synthetic used to be more prone to leaking.

The cheapest oil that meets the specification (see Andsetinn below) does the job. Why pay more?

The Suzuki oil filter is the best choice.
