gear change issue
« on: December 25, 2015, 08:47:26 AM »
The issue i have with my GSX650F K8 '09.. is that sometimes.i feel that it "clunks"into 5th and 6th gear.or shifts between gears on change up only.. it has been serviced last year.before i purchased it...according to service book.. i have lowered the gear linkage. So i dont have to raise my foot so high..but seems the same to me..A mate says i should change the oil.for a thicker viscosity.but im sure..

Don't mess around with the oil,  use the correct spec and viscosity for the bike. You didn't mention how many miles the bike has done?  You could try adjusting the linkage some more, it does sound as though the box isn't engaging properly on the up shift.

Hi skip... mileage is just over 11,000..  I do have an extended warranty on the bike.. but need to read it properly..

Just change the oil to a good quality grade one of the recommended viscosity. Motul or castrol  is recommended. That's the first thing I'd do. It's an inexpensive DIY  job

With 11k on the bike I'd not expect any excessive wear on the gearbox,  based on experience I've found that oil brand can make a big difference to how the gearbox can feel,  for example I used Halford bike oil in an XJ900 diversion I had a few years back an that made it awful, as soon as I changed to another brand it improved.

As Still Learning mentioned Motul or Castrol are a good choice.

Motul 7100 10w40 made a huge difference as soon as I put it in my GSXR-1000.  It was like a new transmission for me.

mine has 115400km... and it still cluncks.

It's part of the 'design' of the gearbox

check the tension of the chain as well. They dont like being too tight.
