Best tyre choice for my new bike.
« on: April 25, 2017, 04:54:52 PM »
Hi All

I have taken the plunge and bought a 2011 GSX650F. Last time I had a Suzuki was 33 years ago. A GP100N rocket.  8)
Any advice on what the best make/size tires for this bike is.
Coming off a Hornet with Pirelli 180/55 zr17 73w on the rear which I liked, what are the choices close to the Hornet which would also fit the GSX.

Any advice is appreciated.

Have recently fitted the new Maxxis Supermax ST tyres to my 1250 , bike feels very sure footed with these tyres on ,and cost less than half of some of the other tyres ,the reviews on them are correct.

Had Michelin PR3s and 4s on my 650 and 1250. Both excellent tryes IMO, got 9k out of the rear. Great grip in the wet and did not square off a quickly as the stock Bridgestones. Just done 1500 miles on PR4s on my Ducati in northern Spain and Portugal and the tyres felt really good on fast sweepers and tight twisties.

Another vote for the PR4's, Came back 2 weeks ago from a 3000 mile trip around eastern Europe and nothing to complain about the tyres.

I had the same question, having just bought an '08 650f with squared off tyres so I need to buy a new pair. Thinking about PR4s but wondering if Metzeler Roadtec 01s are worth the extra?  Probably not, as my riding skills and mileage wouldn't justify it.  New to this forum and finding it v helpful.

Well I have done 2k miles on PR 4s on 10 days during euro tour. I have nevery felt more confident in tyres.  Beat stand Ard battlax 021s hands down.

Got to agree with you gsx1250faz!  I haven't done as many miles as you on the PR4's, but I've got to say that first impressions, they're better than the original 021's in the wet and dry.  Hope they last longer and don't square off too!  Won't be that difficult since I got crap mileage out of the Bridgestone's and I'm not a particularly hard rider.

Its almost time for me to change my PR4's, got 5k miles out of the rear and the front is good for maybe another 3k.  They were great in the wet, but felt soft and squirmy in the dry. They are definitely more  touring than sports and the turn in was to slow for me.

I found Bridgestone BT023's a better tyre than PR4's in the dry, which is 95% of my riding. I'm considering either T30 evo's or Roadtec 01's.  Has anyone tried these ? What are your thoughts ?

After watching and reading all the glowing reviews on the Metzeler Roadtec 01's, I had a pair fitted and got them scrubbed in.

In a word, WOW, I know you can't compare new with old tyres, but feedback and grip is amazing, steering is light, neutral and progressive and the suspension feels noticeably plusher, plus they warm up quickly. They have a nice sporty feel to them and the bike seems almost telepathic.

As a bonus, Metzeler are offering a £30 prepaid credit card at participating dealers. Happy days.
Personally, I much prefer the feel to  these tyres to any of the BT21, BT23, PP2,PR4 and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending these superb tyres.

Just had a pair of metzeler roadtec 01s fitted and then rode 500 miles including 250 in torrential rain. Awesome tyres! It's like a whole new bike. Recommended.
